Artist's Statement
I am a retired scientist and engineer, now a fine-arts photographer specializing in exploring the spiritual connections between mankind and nature. My images are intended to help reconnect material man with our own inner spiritual nature, and our environment. I specialize in photography of the waters of the Great Lakes.
My work expresses my conviction that humanity needs to return to the understanding of early peoples who treated the natural part of their worlds as having spiritual connections to themselves.
Western civilization has treated nature as a physical resource to be exploited, manipulated, abused, owned, sold, spoiled and ignored. The prevailing view is of a hierarchical structure to nature with humans at the top. It was not always so. Such a view removes humans from their natural relationship with nature, one of interdependence.
